1. Eddie Diaz (9-1-1)

Obviously I have to start with my boy Eddie. My sweetheart living in comphet hell. He thinks he has to live up to some platonic ideal of the perfect boyfriend/husband but he can’t get his heart to agree with his head. He cares so deeply but he keeps himself trapped by his own assumptions of who and what he’s supposed to want.

2. Sasha James (The Magnus Archives)

(Sorry Sasha you’re a podcast character so you just get eyes)

Oh Sasha we see so little of you. This is a fairly popular headcanon in the TMA fandom and I love it. She’s the most competent person in the archives but she’s also the kind of person who goes to a graveyard because a creepy guy with knife hands who’s clearly a monster asked her to. She slept with her best friend Tim once and laughed it off the next day (though he almost certainly had more romantic feelings towards her).

3. Saiki Kusuo (The Disastrous Life of Saiki K)

This one is barely a headcanon lmao. Saiki is a powerful psychic who mostly uses his incredible powers to avoid the rom-com life that fate keeps trying to put in his way. Full episodes are spent on trying to get Teruhashi to fall out of love with him.

4. Reyna Avila Ramirez-Arellano (Heroes of Olympus

I’ll never forget the time Reyna laughed in Apollo’s face when he asked her out. Reyna’s past with Jason is never explored in detail, but there’s always an implication that any romantic feelings she felt towards him before his amnesia was at least a little out of obligation, since they had become the leaders of Camp Jupiter. Also that time she sorta tried to seduce Percy but 100% only because she preferred him to Octavian (super fair).

5. Katniss Everdeen (Hunger Games)

This one might be controversial. Katniss is of course the center of a love triangle with her, Peeta, and Gale. She spends a large portion of the first two books playacting at a romance with Peeta while having no clue what romance is, and eventually after the war ends they fall into a real relationship. But I wouldn’t characterize the bond between Katniss and Peeta as the typical butterflies and flutters that other romances have. Instead, it’s a bond between two people who have gone through horrors together and understand each other like nobody else ever will. I think Peeta becomes the most important person to Katniss over time, but not quite in a romantic way. They act out romance for their audience, but their real relationship is more understanding and mutual caretaking and finding peace with each other.
